One practice, four locations
Our Newmarket practice is the the base for our specialised racing, stud and sport and leisure horse ambulatory teams, as well as being the location of our equine clinical pathology laboratories.
Our world-renowned Rossdales Equine Hospital and Diagnostic Centre is located in Exning, just two miles outside the centre of Newmarket. We additionally have ambulatory branch practices, in Hertfordshire and Lambourn.
Our team is made up of a diverse, supportive and passionate team of professionals, which allows us to provide the highest standards of care to our patients. We are proud to have the use of the latest cutting-edge facilities and equipment to service our work.
A diverse client base
Although the original primary focus of the practice was the thoroughbred industry, as Rossdales has evolved over the years, our client base has developed to include a large proportion of sport and leisure horse owners.
Our referral practice has also expanded to the extent that almost 70% of our medical and surgical referrals at the hospital, and laboratory samples, now come from veterinary practices throughout the UK and other EU countries.
The story behind Rossdales
It all began at the end of 1959 when Peter Rossdale set up his own practice in Dullingham Road, just outside Newmarket. Peter was later joined by other pioneering veterinary surgeons, who together formed the foundations of the now world-renowned Rossdales Veterinary Surgeons.

After two years, the practice moved to Beaufort Cottage Stables in the centre of Newmarket, from where our equine practice still operates, serving a wide range of clients locally and across East Anglia.
It is also the location for Rossdales Laboratories, which for many years has been an established market leader delivering comprehensive diagnostic laboratory referral services specifically for equine veterinary practitioners from across the UK and other EU countries.
New Laboratories, reception and staff facilities
After more than 50 years in the existing laboratories, in 2019 a significant investment enabled expansion of our Newmarket site to accommodate brand new state of the art laboratories, reception and staff facilities, which was completed in early 2020.
Development of Exning site
In 1991, Rossdales Equine Diagnostic Centre was developed two miles away in Exning. In response to an ever-increasing surgical caseload from local clients and from referring vets around the UK, Rossdales Equine Hospital was completed at the Exning site and opened by HM The Queen in April 1998.
Her Majesty returned to Exning in October 2008 to open our new Diagnostic Centre, housing our state-of-the-art MRI and CT imaging suites, examination rooms and a standing surgery unit.

At the end of 2017, our purpose built state-of-the-art Medical Intensive Care Unit, (pictured left) where each patient is housed within a stable with its own nursing area, was completed and admitted its first patient.
Hertfordshire and Lambourn
Our ambulatory services expanded with the addition in 2012 of Rossdales Hertfordshire, where the team has a broad client base of leisure horses, competition horses and stud farms, covering Hertfordshire and the surrounding counties.
Five years later, Rossdales Lambourn was established, with a dedicated veterinary team that focuses on the management of racehorses and sport horses, as well as providing a full service to stud farms in Lambourn and the surrounding Wiltshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire countryside
The future
Continual investment in the latest veterinary technology, techniques and infrastructure, together with the attraction of dedicated expert and specialist equine vets, has not only ensured the creation of one of the largest Thoroughbred ambulatory practices in Europe but has also provided the facilities and expertise to encourage the development of one of the largest equine referral practices, admitting all types of equine patient.
